Take your English program beyond the classroom! A Rennert Volunteership Add-On gives you the opportunity to combine English learning with meaningful community involvement in New York City.

Adding a Volunteership to your Intensive English or Business English 22-lesson program will not only give you the opportunity to put your English into practice in a real-world environment and experience a greater sense of community involvement, but it can also help you stand out academically and professionally.

How Does the Volunteership Work?

Students attend a minimum of 22 English lessons per week and, afterward, participate in unpaid volunteer activities at a New York-based nonprofit organization in areas of compassionate care, community need, and social responsibility, such as:

• Education and Youth Programs
• Hunger Relief and Community Services
• Senior Services
• Parks and Environment
• Animal Welfare

You will be assigned a Placement Coordinator who will check in with you regularly to ensure you are making the most of the experience. At the end of your placement, you will receive a Certificate of Volunteership recognizing your contribution and your English skills in action.

It also provides an excellent way to practice English outside the classroom.

Students who participate in the Volunteership Add-on can also attend résumé- and profile-building workshops and events at the school, learning how to highlight their experience on their résumé and LinkedIn profile to support future career and education opportunities back home.

Course Details

• 22 Business English or Intensive English lessons per week for 4–48 weeks
• Volunteership placement after Week 2 of the English course in an area of compassionate care
• Volunteerships take place in the afternoons or on weekends, as needed by the host organization

Requirements

• Online interview
• Intermediate level of English
• Students will receive a Certificate of Volunteership at the end of their placement.
• Students must meet the attendance requirements of their English program and be in compliance with all other aspects of their I-20 and student visa requirements.
